In recent issues of the barbel society magazines there seems to be some disagreement about the barbels anatomy.
Fred made it clear why he did not agree with Steve Stayners statements, there has been no reply in the magazine which is suprising as he seemed to be shot down in flames, this concerns me 1, conflicting stories on an important issue as this in a specialist mag,2,products&books are being sold by one party.I stand to be corrected if i am wrong, how about a reply steve. This also applies to Chris Lyons on his lunar lunacy.ps. i am no longer a member of the society, difficult to take it seriously.

Paul,
I don't know if the people you would like to reply will but you may get debate if you tell us how some people disagree on the anatomy of barbel.

Hi Paul J and hi to Paul W.

First of all I'm saddened that you feel the Society cannot be taken seriously but I won't dwell on that as it's your opinion.

If Steve Stayner wishes to pen a response be assured that it will be published in the magazine, from an editorial point of view we always aim to be scrupulously fair.

Now I'll put my cards on the table, Fred is probably my best friend in barbel fishing and I would certainly accept his word on barbel anatomy, that's not to say we agree on everything we don't and that is surely the point.

Most articles are written in good faith but that's not to say you take them on board as a matter of course. Fishing is all about opinion when it comes to articles and you take out of them what you choose and try to develop and formulate your own opinions.

Anglers have to make up their own minds with regard to those who write with a commercial interest but surely we are all sensible enough to understand that.

Hi steve, thankyou for taking the time to share your view.I must say the society is a good organization but personally not for me.
Also i thought the article came over as misleading twaddle and somebody who is a regular in the mag should make more effort to get there facts right.I read Freds book Understanding Barbel many moons ago (not full ones) i suggest others do.

Steve/Paul......from a personal point of view i was just interested in opinion with regard to the Barbels anatomy......i'm not interested in name calling i just think that if someone comes onto a public forum with the remarks Paul makes it would be nice for the people visiting that forum to know what he is talking about!
Tch Tch this barbel world eh! ;)

Steve,

well said, this isn't an exact science and it is undoubtedly all about opinions, we should all be able to respect that whether we agree or not.

Pauls point is also a valid one - how about someone spelling out to those of us who don't get the society mag what the 'discussion' was about. Sounds quite interesting !

I’m also interested, a disagreement on the anatomy of a fish between experts surprises me.
