Catching big carp on the pole down the canal

I have carp come out of the canal but nothing over 8 pound. I don't get as much of a thrill landing tiny buggers like that, i want something more challenging please help me!!!!!

which canal are you fishing John? Do u know the size they run ? What bait are u using mate ?
