Is Wurzel right? Are we going to see more silver fish waters, or more fisheries catering for the tench and bream angler?

The short answer is yes several of the better known carp fisheries have started to look at silver fish as the match carp bubble is beginning to burst.
Essentially customers want a bit more mystery to their fishing.
Also the match sized carp of a few years ago are getting a bit big for the Job nowadays..

There has just been a huge debate on the RMC web site about what to do with the Copse lake at Yatley(ex carp fishery) and Ian has decided to make it a specimen fishery ie Big bream tench perch crucians roach. There was a big demand to do this and not put any carp in at all because the water would then once again become dominated by carp anglers.
It's a shame he did not go with my suggestion of Barbel,Sturgeon Pirrana and other exotic species but then I guess you can't have everything.

I agree with Alans post.I think another reason is that anglers like a bit of variety. As Alan said a bit of mystery is much better than every fish being the same,no matter what size!

Anyone want to start a book on when they're going to invent the first commercial river fishery..?

Someone somewhere will dig a winding waterway with gravel shallows, overhanging trees, deep holes and waving streamer weeds.

Water will be pumped in at the top, filtered and recycled at the other end.

The water will be stocked with chub, barbel, pike, dace, bleak etc.

It will be quite difficult in the summer as the water will be low and there will be a lot of weed growth.

During the colder months, the water will be artificially coloured to resemble a flood and extra water will be pumped in, simulating the illusion of flooding.

To make things even more realistic, there will be none of those platforms or landscaped swims and there will also be several snags, barbed wire fences and a field with a large bull in it.

Chris...sounds like the Coppermill stream!!!!

Thats probably the nearest thing to it, clear water pumped from Walthamstow, flow controlled artificially...mind you its done double figure Barbel, Perch to big 4's, 20 pound plus Carp, Bream to over 9 pounds, 5 pound Chub, 20 pound plus Pike, Humungous Eels and even Grayling and this in the middle of London by an underground station!

I think the demand for specialist fisheries other than Carp will grow as specialist angling grows....dont places like Anglers Paradise, or the Makin fishery already do something similar and cater for many tastes....Tench lake, Orfe lake etc etc ?
