Are you talking hook lengths, main line?? Also, I would have thought it depends on how and what bait you are presenting and the method being deployed. Not that I could give you an answer even then, its just that I am interested in some of these options etc.

Maxima. Trusty.
GR Something or other, Just trying it in 8LB seems nice.
Big Game, Trusty again.
Super Shinobi, I like it for hooklengths...

Wouldn't be at all surprised if the 1st 3 were made at the same place...

Daiwa Sensor - excellent general mainline, tough, abrasion resistant and dirt cheap. Caught all my barbel over the last 2 years using it.

Hooklengths: For barbel: 9 lbs and 10 lbs Uncle Jacks Fluoro., chub 6 lbs Uncle Jacks.

For roach I tend to buy ready tied spades from Drennan.

i have been feildtesting the new special filiments topline and in the past month have caught about 100 fish over 12lb on it....The only prob with it is that it is not as abrasive as other mainlines good for distance work though....

Look in the tackle box catalogue - they give a good line comparison chart - thickness, stated vs true breaking strains, etc

Agree with Ron on this Daiwa Sensor and Uncle Jack's Flouro. I'm suprised more don't use the UJ flouro as I've found it reliable and very cheap although the breaking strains are limited for carp.

I have absolutely stacks of Fulling Mill flouro and it is very, very average.

Without doubt, the best flouro on the market is the stuff sold by Game-On (see the A-Mail review a couple of weeks ago) the problem is finding anywhere that stocks it.

Mono reel lines.
2.5lb Maxima for light float work.
12lb Technium (for any places that ban braid)
other than that, all my other reels (about 18 or 20) are loaded with braid in the folowing...
8lb, 14lb, 20lb, 24lb, 30lb and 50lb.

(just remebered that my winch rod has 8lb maxima on it as well)

Always used maxima, never let me down! but was recently recommended soft steel (FOX). Very supple, strong as hell but I couldn't tie a grinner knot with it, it kept kinking/spiralling as i tried to tighten it down to hook eye, reverted to blood knot and it was great. Used 8lb got in snag and pulled and pulled and pulled etc. for a break, oh also landed my personal best Barbel on it! So I'm definitely a fan!!

Rik,
What other florocarbon and nylon do you recommend for hooklinks. I use 10lb Berkly xt and your favourite 15lb world class.Do you use esp stiff link for booms?

For mainline I use 12lb Diawa Sensor, the right price for us Runcornians.

Rik,
What other florocarbon and nylon do you recommend for hooklinks?

Nylon.
Silstar Match Team (now WB Clarke )10lb is the heaviest they sell.
Various Hi-tech lighter strains.

Flouro and stiff booms.
I have 35lb Ultima Shocking.
30 and 20lb Amnesia.
20lb Stiff bristle filament.
and ESP flouro in all strains.
I would still recommend Game-On flouro over anything else, if you can get any.
It is as supple as other monos, so would replace the need for mono hooklinks as well.
Although it's not very good at stiff links because it's so supple.

15lb Big Game for weedy waters, tremendous around lily pads in summer.
10lb Diawa Sensor for Barbel or light line carping. Tremendous value line.
obviously tremendous is the word of today

For me the jury is very much still out for Berkely Ironsilk I found it's knot strength was very poor compared to other similar lines.
I am using Nash Bullet Mono at the moment, very good value and so far performance is excellent. One point with this line is that it seems very thick for its BS but the 12lb is stronger than most 15lb lines and breaks at nearly 19lb
