joining two lines

What is the best knot or method for securely joining two lines together for example; if tying a light hook link to a heavier main line when float fishing. I usually tie two full blood knots but it seems fiddly and I'm sure there must be a more elegant solution.

Easiest and most popular fly leader to tippet knot (usually two different diameters) is the double overhand knot otherwise known as the surgeons knot. They don't get any easier to tie. Check it out at www.lagooner.com. Go to 'knots' and then to 'surgeons knot'

I sometimes use a double grinner but it is fiddly,why not use a small ring or even a small swivel.
