Royalty and Throop

Great article, really enjoyed as it brought home all my expereinces on the above mentioned rivers. I used to live just round the corner from the Royalty in Christchurch and fished it regularly, it is indeed a very hard water. The Barbel have seen everything and it does get very busy. A little secret I suppose I picked up over the years there is that it is generally a waster of time unless it's tipping it down or flooded, in fact the more flooded the better. 4oz plus leads to hold bottom if necassary. If it's hot and sunny go after the Carp there's some crakcers in their.

I think the other major problem with the place is the sheer volume of bait going in, the fish don't feed in the normal context that we're used to, they simply snack in my view taking opportunistic nibbles on bait as it flows past. That said I'm sure there are plenty of you out there who would disagree. In fact is this common to other heavily fished barbel stretches ?
