Christening a new rod

OK, I don't know if anyone else suffers from the same thing but I have a new John Wilson Rod and so far, after three sessions, I have yet to christen it with a fish.

Does anyone else suffer from this in that it takes ages to christen a new rod, but if you use an old favourite on the same sessions you can catch?

Interested to know.

A :))

Sorry guys about the following.. just rubbing salt in the wounds I guess. New rod for birthday, Feb this year. Took it out on the day up to a local small river. Flicked out a piece of ledgered cheese, within 2 minutes the tip pulls around and I land a chub of around 3lb... gave the new rod a nice bend I'll tell you!!

Trouble is that form hasn't countinued!

First time out with the Concept and I caught 3 pike with it. 5 lbs, 8 lbs and 123/4 lbs.

I'm dead lucky I suppose.

I recently aquired, by various devious means, a Drennan DRX 14 foot float rod. It's by far the best light float fishing rod I have ever handled. Took it out, first time on the Idle the other day and got several good roach with it.

I don't like going fishing with new items - it always seems that when I blank it's because I had some new item of tackle with me. It got to the point where I wouldn't fish a match with any item of new tackle. If I couldn't get out somewhere to christen it I'd leave it behind!
Bloody silly really- even when I had no new item of tackle with I still blanked or had bad results 50% of the time.

Before I started match fishing I wouldn't get the nets wet until I'd caught a fish.

I not superstitious tho' - touch wood.

I bought a new Bob James centre pin and a Fox 13' Barbel Float rod in April for my 50th Birthday present and still haven't caught a fish with them jet. I even went to a Carp puddle in desperation and still failed. It seams the harder you try the worse it gets.
So Adrian, stop complaining.

At least you've had a chance to use the new rod Adrian. I ordered a "long rod" (20' job) for stick float fishing on the rivers. It arrived the day all my local rivers were shut down due to foot and mouth. This was followed by the close season; it was nigh on four months before I could use it properly!!
