has anyone tried sweet or fruit flavoured boilies for barbel? I've got a trip planned on the Severn for Thursday. i want an alternative to fishmeal. i'll be using casters oe sweetcorn om the other rod.

I was thinking about trying bright coloured tuti fruiti or pineapple boilies.

John i have heard rumours off people catching quite a few barbel on the Kenett with jelly beans so you might be onto something there or try useing them

I caught a couple of Barbel using sweet Pineapple flavour baits on the river Lea while after Carp once or twice although I usually use different fishmeal or meat based flavours when targetting Barbel.

As for sweet baits; In the book 'Big Barbel - Bonded by the challenge' (page 9) there is a bit about a 'sweet bait' used by a couple of very succesfull Adams Mill Barbel anglers who used what they termed their 'special paste bait' which was a sweet bait which caught them some superb Barbel, and Bob Church used a Caramel flavoured sweet bait.

Matt Hayes used to swear by esterberry also strawberry flavoured sweetcorn. Let's not kid ourselves here chaps once Barbel start feeding there's not a lot they wont eat.
