Here goes, I've been fishing for ages but there is some thing that always annoy's me....
How do you use bloodworm as a hookbait?
Are we talking about the same stuff that I feed to my tropicals?
I know tench love it but please can someone tell me how you use it?
Do you mash and use as a paste, mix with something else?
Thanks

Kenny

Kenny,
the bloodworm you use to feed your fish have been freeze dried, they could I suppose be mixed into paste or groundbait but they tend to float untill rehydrated. Bloodworm is the larvie of the midge.

They are fished in the same way as other worms except in a smaller scale. They are fished on size 22 - 24 hooks with very light hooklengths of around 8 - 12oz, they are kept in damp news paper in a cool place to stop them dying.

They are fed by sprinking damp leam (a type of clay) over them, this helps seperate the worms and small balls are fed in either neat or if in groundbait they are added as the feed is going in as they are intolerant to salt, it has the same effect on them as it does on slugs.

look here to see a picture of live bloodworm
