Can anyone tell me how you can make the oppersite sex, understand the appeal of angling.
Or is it impossible, and dedicated angler's should live alone ?

impossible Bob.

My missus thinks I'm stupid chubbing til midnight in February in minus 5.

she doesnt mind a bit of summer sunbathing or a couple of hours at Ironbridge (shopping).....

You could try blinding them with science Bob.

Tell them that on a psychological level you are doing your bit to keep your hand in as a hunter so that come the apocalypse you will be able to provide for her,as long as she doesn't object to eating chub of course.

It may be better to not try at all, just tell her it's a man thing, like beer and football and all those other things that women don't understand.

Living alone would simplify matters considerably, but them chub won't keep you warm at night.

John/Dave,
58 years old in a few months time and I still don't have a clue what they want?
As for keeping warm, I have a very good -20 sleeping bag, into which I push a 3 season bag if I want to be really warm.
I alway's thought Martian's were just Sci-Fi make believe, but I now have my doubts.
As I truly think the other sex are from a different planet ?

I moved in with this girl last year, and so far fishing has nearly split us about 10 times .Whenever I say "do mind if go fishing this weekend" its like "well you never spend anytime with me". Luckily its the close season at the mo as I'm not going so much.

Fishing and girlfriends just don't go.

i took the wife with me a couple of weeks ago, gave her a margim pole, set it up,and stuck her in my favourite spot,i managed 1 fish in 4 hours!!i spent most of my time baiting her hooks(wont touch maggots),untangleing her line and unhooking fish.she lost as many as she landed(14),and had the nerve to say "i was naff at this fishing lark",as i only had the one fish.she even complained that she only caught one kind of fish, roach. not takin her again.

Bob - I have posted a similar point previously.

I have absolutely NO intention of persuading my wife that fishing is fun, sensible etc etc.

Any chance of her adopting my hobby will be vigorously defended by me!!

The vast majority of women will NEVER understand the appeal of angling - as they have no soul....

and long may that continue !!!!!!!!

Blimey Gary, I hope your wife never sees that post (if you are married that is..)!! But I share the sentiments.

I must admit, "Nutter of the week" definitely went to Mrs Stu Dexter, who sat through that freezing, howling gale at Clattercote watching her man take the cash....again. Or was she just there to grab the cash for house keeping??

The trick is to reduce the time spent on other hobbies. They don't seem to mind us fishing as much as they do other activities such as darts, which involve socialising and drinking. I now have no involvement with music, darts etc. and, as fishing is now my only hobby, I manage to do more of it. I also take the wife fishing occasionally so that she can enjoy the atmosphere. This is always on a fairly easy venue when the weather is pleasant. She finds this enjoyable. I never take her to my big fish venues or when the weather is not pleasant. She would get bored very quickly on my big fish venues as they are very slow, but she does realise what big fish mean to me. This came in very useful in February when I caught my p.b. chub. I was in a real dilema as I didn't want anybody to see where the fish was caught as it was not from one of the 'circus' waters and self-photography is not something I am very skilled at. I phoned her and she was happy to come and do the photos for me. She did an excellent job. It pays to keep on the right side of our partners. Bob, they come in useful sometimes.

Lads,
Do I complain, with the constant diet of Emmerdale, Eastender's and Coronation Street, and any other drivel that comes on just about dinner time.
No
So whats the problem with Fishing ?
And they say there is no sense to it, but it's as if the nonsense they watch is real life.
Plus all those make over programs, do they really believe it's that simple ?
Totally confused.

Gary is quite right in a way, the vast majority of women have no soul and are totally devoid of any feelings of romance.

During my early 20s I was engaged to be married 3 times, but managed to get rid of 'em when I discovered that all three were as hard as bloody nails.

Then I emigrated and met Margaret who was a gem, one in a million. We had 18 fabulous years together until she died suddenly in 1987.

With odd exceptions, and I mean very odd, you will not find women who can write great poetry or compose music or even appreciate a sunset over the sea, let alone enjoy or appreciate why we go fishing.

I have a feeling after reading her posts that Wendy may be one of those exceptions.
