"This is the first catch I have reported in ten years..."

Great story, thanks for sharing it.

Amazing run of fish. Wish I'd weighed my accidental perch now.

Great results for the dedication of time and research you have put in to the water and its piscatorial inhabitants!

Andy, just re-read you article. I see you are using Shimano XTE 10000?s, how do you find these for tench fishing? Do you find them a little heavy for the rod you matched them to?. I would assume you gain quite a few extra yards on our cast using these reels, as opposed to using 5000/6000/8000 GTE's
Are they your standard reel for tench fishing, or do you use something different usuallly. I assume you use them for bream fishing as well?

regards

Tony

Yes, they are heavy and i would ideally prefer a lighter baitrunner with the same dimensions. The reason I use them is that they are extremely smooth and have a large spool. That makes casting easier when using a sinking braid like submerge, keeps line twist to a minimum when fishing extreme range or when casting a lot and they are great to play fish on especially if like me you prefer to backwind rather than use the drag.

If I'm using my 1 3/4 interceptors i invariably use them and most of my Tenching and Breaming involves fishing distance at distance with the 1 3/4. When using my 1 1/4 harrisons for shorter distance lighter work I couple them with Shimano X Match 3000 M's which weigh about 55% of the weight of a 10000 XTE.

Cheers Andy. I still use the Baitrunner GTE 5000 for 90% of my fishing, and find these are a good compromise, but can see where the 10000 XTE's would have a distinct advantage.
Similar to yourself, i tend to match a smaller reel to my 1lb Fox Specialist's, currently using the 3000 GTM's.

Thanks for your quick reply

regards

Tony
