With EFTTA clamping down on line breaking strains as posted by Graham Marsden.

Could this lead to next generation of reels?

Calibrated for setting the clutch,on mono,s,braids etc.

Or is this getting to technical?

Would this make for better fishing or take the fun out of it?

To the seasoned angler may be?

you,ve still got it under some sort of controlled tension backwinding.

But to the novice a calibrated reel could be a godsend, taking the guessing out of it.

I havent really thought about it that much, thats why the above questions.

With a good clutch, it's all about feel.

Not only that but the friction on the line between the rod rings varies tremenously depending on the angle you hold the rod when a fish is running.

Other than when using very light tackle for small fish, I never backwind.

Learn how to use the drag properly.

If it was calibrated ron would you use it knowing it to be reliable?

Your a knowledgable fellow ron do you think this would make it better for fishing?

Or would you leave the reels as they are? and learn by trail and error the way we all have.

Calibrated to what standard? The companys who build reels will have various degrees of tolerance say for example +/-10% of their calibrated settings/readings. From my point of view unless the companys work to a know standard say ISO calibrated settings would mean very little to me.
I think I will stick to my 'I know my rod and clutch combo'.
