Customers are advised that a prolific virus has been distributing around the Internet this week.

This virus is distributed by e-mail attachment, and follows the pattern of recent viruses in that it scans address books on infected computers and sends mail "as" one or more members of these address books.

This virus, known as Sobig.F, has been classified as a Category 4 threat by Symantec. Further information on this virus, its symptoms and a removal tool can be found on Symantec's website:

Because of the way this virus operates, you may also be receiving messages from Anti Virus alerts running on other ISP mail systems.
These are not necessarily accurate [they mostly suggest that you have sent the virus], and you should check the site above for more details.

We encourage the use of up to date virus checkers and personal firewall technology.

A filter was yesterday applied to the blueyonder mail servers to prevent further copies of this particular virus from entering the blueyonder e-mail system. This appears to be working well and we shall be monitoring its operation closely.
