Float Making Materials

I'm very interested in making my own floats having finally found a copy of Watson's Floatmaking Manual (thanks Steve Burke).

Does anyone know where I can obtain Porcupine quills? Peacock feater and crow wings seem fairly easy ( although God knows what the better half will say) but I have been defeated by quills.

I really should have stopped and recycled some of those squashed porcupines I passed on North American roads this summer.

It is also worth while taking a look on e-bay as there are occasionally a "job lot" of quills for auction.

Come to think of it, I passed by a "roadkill" porcupine last week, maybe you should have posted earlier. lol
