Fishing rods, excess baggage?

Does anyone know if BA gives any baggage concessions to Anglers flying long haul?
I've had a look at their web site & can't find any references to fishing tackle. The reels & terminal tackle will go in the suitcase & won't be a problem, but I've borrowed a 'Bazooka' rod case and I'm told that you can book them in as a 'fragile' item & they are not counted as part of your normal allowance but I can't confirm this. Can anybody advise?

Thanks
Barry

Used to be able to class rod holdalls as "sporting luggage" this wasnt weighed so you could cram all your heavy stuff in as well as your rods.

When I went to france earlier this year i flew with BA and theyt simply made me take the rods to the oversized luggage area and didn't weight them. i took mine tapped in a couple of plastic drainpipes which dont add a huge amount of weight.

Barry,

I've taken rods to many locations now in a KIS tube and never been charged access baggage for them. Like Budgie says they are classed as sporting goods.

You should be OK but if you ring the flight operator they will tell you.
