Wrap PVC electrician?s tape around the handle give it a good rub so it sticks well and leave it for about 30 minutes. Remove the tape and you have a nice clean handle. I have only tried this on Cork handles so be careful with the Neoprene.

As Eddie says, hot soapy water & nail brush.
A small amount of kitchen scouring powder for stubborn marks may help.

Rinse and allow to thoroughly dry.

Yes, agree and a little bleach on stained cork. Trick is, don't let groundbait set like concrete on them to begin with.

That was the problem, and Irish groudbait seems worse than normal. Thanks lads shall try all of them.

I've never bothered to clean a handle in my life.

A mucky handle gives the rod character, and you can look back at the various stains that were unique to particular successful days fishing.

Ron says "I've never bothered to clean a handle in my life."

Then you obviously don't have a sister-in-law like mine. I needed to borrow a carp rod from her the other week and I had to spend 1/2 hour scrubbing 1000's of mackerel scales off it.

To be fair though, she only uses it for mackerel fishing anyway.

Hope you don't have the same policy with your underpants Ron!

But Ron, surely there's nothing worse than putting your rod back in its rest only to find your hand stuck to it? YuuuuKKKKK!

What Ron likes is the additional camouflage the growth on the butt gives him,he tells me that it came in handy on his Wessex trip.
It may well be, that live bait is also growing on there, for his trip to the Fens!

I`m with Ron on this one, handles particularly cork handles, should be left full of shit, crushed maggots, mud, frtench letters and what ever else gets dragged up on the bank, it adds to its authenticity

and before anyone asks about me underpants

well,
if they where good enough for me grandad, well there good enough for me!

But monks are supposed to wear nothing under their habits. Same as nuns.

Personally I change my underpants at least 3 times in 6 years.

Ray Webb lived for most of his life in the nappy he was born in!

At least we are not woofters....)
