i thiink we should have a yearly fish in match, to fish for the ron clay trophy.
match rules should be one rod no longer than 13 feet anyone landing a carp should face automatic disqualification.
with the venue being a midlands river of Rons choice each year.
midlands because it's less distance for everyone to travel.
what do you think.

the trophy itself could be a wooden plaque with a picture of the south african flag and a very dodgy hat on it

You laugh.

The "Ron Clay Trophy" actually did/does still, exist.

During the days of the Northern Specimen Group I was asked if I would award a trophy to an angler in the group who I thought performed the most outstanding feat of angling during the year.

If I remember it was awarded only 3 times.

First time it went to my life long angling mate: John Weston who caught a 19 1/2 lb pike from a tiny Lincolshire drain where they only used to average about 4 lbs.

Second, it went to Steve Crawshaw who caught 2 tench over 6 lbs in successive casts.

Third it went to Ray Webb who took a 8 1/2 barbel from the Yorks Ouse. It was the largest barbel recorded in Yorkshire for many a year.

Yes, it really did exist. It cost me a fiver and another 5 bob to have it engraved.

I wonder who has it now?
