Any suggestions on tactics would be greatly appreciated?

Squid or half a tin of luncheon meat.

Failing that, surface fished carp, superb tactic, shites the living daylight outta ya when they take it though if your fishing close in.

Tench are also very good.

Polyball on weak link (rotten bottom) attached to hook, suficient enough to pull bait to surface.

Surface fished rudd straight off a tight baitrunner and alarm - awesome!

Had a few on double 20mm halibut pellets soaked in fish oils to prolong breakdown too.

Pull tentacles out of squid, peel dark layer of skin off, remove quill, shove a bit of balsa wood into the body (enough to pop it up) and re-attach the tentacles with cotton or something. Then fish popped up 6" or so off bottom. All the tentacles wave about with the slightest water movement and must look irresistable. You can also half stuff the body with chopped up fish, squid, mussels etc to give a slow leakage of flavour. Messy but pretty good bait.

Stu,
Have a look at the following cat site:
www.swatman.demon.co.uk

The rigs section is pretty good. I have used the helicopter type rig with some success with the rod propped up beachcaster style, baitrunner on very tight and straight off the alarm. Ignore all the rubbish written about sensitivity when useing livebaits, they will hit the bait harder than anything you've experienced before and keep going. One-toners evertime!

Now that looks like a madforit rig Sascha "THE KEITH LAMBERT CAT-O-COPTER"

I'd like a go at that one!

No one seems to have asked you where you are going catting? makes a lot of difference to bait and tackle/tactics selection.
