Does anyone know of an insurer specialising in covering tackle against theft etc.
This thread may have been posted before - apologies if it has.

The best cover I found and the most cost effective way, was to get an extension on my house contents policy.

Phone your house insurer and explain what you want covered, e.g sports equipment outside the house and in use.

They sometimes limit the maximum single claim to about 2 or 3 grand, but most insurers do that anyway if you bother to read the policy properly.

Mark - I think you will find the angling club is no different than most home contents insurers, in that they also don't insure tackle that is broken or lost while in use. I don't believe they offer anything more than a home contents policy does. It's certainly worth checking with home contents insurers as they will only be charging you for an excess to your current policy, not for a whole new policy with the inherent set-up charges.

Be careful though with some house contents policies, Sports equipment (and most companies class angling goods as this) is only insured to a maximum of ?1000 per person. I got caught with this one and to fully insure my tackle it was going to cost me well over ?250 per year to do so!!!!

My gear is insured as *personnel possesions* and I have had one claim of just over ?1000 go through with no trouble at all. This was on my house contents insurance, and it involved me leaving a Quiver with 3 Armalites, a bivvie and 3 pit reels at a lake in Norfolk. I got home and realised they were leaning against a tree in the car park. Unfortuantly I live in Scotland... d'oh!

Be very careful with the Angling Club and check out the small print. Also before paying ant money ask them a few questions in the shape of 'what if'
ie you have insured for ?1000.00 but your gear is worth ?3000.00 and it is all nicked how much would you get. You may be disappointed with the answer.
