Antis on the up

What a tragedy that the planned primat reseach center at Cambridge has been abandoned. Not only for the loss of valuable research into illnesses that seem to be growing more prevalant in our ageing population(it comes to us all)but the fact that it has put the whole anti movements on an up(they are frequently the same people and if not certainly trade information and ideas).
Just wait for the increased pressure that will be exert on angling.

I friend of mine has just lost his wife, Saturday morning. She'd been suffering from Alzheimer's for the past 8 years. I know from what he has said previously what he thinks of these anti-vivisection people.

Most of the time, they are ill-informed. All of the time they don't consider other human beings.

a database should be kept on all people who are members of the anti lobby.
When they get to hospital it should be checked and as they are totally against animal testing one would presume they will be totally against the treatments developed by it's use.
At which point they should be denied any treatment which was developed by these means.
It would be easy to set up they could put the questions on the next census.
and anyone arrested for offences commited against animal testing centers would also be entered automatically into the database.

I have several old friends who are now suffering with Alzheimers. What a great shame.

My company manufactures and supplies filters which are used in the purification of pharmaceuticals. All the materials of construction have to be tested for toxicity on rabbits or mice. It is law.

The European and US pharmacopaea guidlines for good manufacturing practice lay this down.

The Huntingdon Life Sciences do this. If this operation closes, such testing will have to be done in the USA or Europe.

When great life savers such as antibiotics and other drugs were discovered, animals were used extensively in testing efficacy and safety. There is no other way. It is part of the clinical trials process.

This has set back pharmaceutical research many years in this country. This decision is a disaster.

By the way, on a lighter note, virtually all the filters supplied for the manufacturing of viagra are ours.

By the way, I heard a story about Viagra from my USA Office. During clinical trials, the stuff was given to a group of male chimps.

They were all found several days later bashing their todgers frantically day and night!!

I cant remember what I'm supposed to forget

Do you ever go upstairs for something and when you get there forget what you went up for?

I went to the post office the other day(about 1/2 mile)walked back, and when I got home remembered I'd gone there in the car --I had to go back for it.....

If this research is in the publics health interest, then if the Labs cant afford the security the Gov should provide it.

think of the extra jobs this would create & the safe guard of the medical research.

Im not a great fan of animal lab tests, but in the name of medical research, its the only way in a lot of cases & that i do support.

One animal rights idiot once stated that tests should be done on humans.

Does anyone remember the thalidomide disaster? I do.

I've been to a number of animal testing labs and quite honestly the animals get better treated than on most farms. When they are killed, which they have to be after implantation tests, they are euthanised in the most humane way.

The workers in these labs are very caring and extremely respectful of the animals and what they are helping us humans achieve in terms of preventing human desease.

If there is anything I am against is animal testing of mere cosmetics.

This IS wrong!

I worked for a company that produced shampoos and deoderants, famous brands too. We were threatened with a demonstration outside the factory.

The protestors were instead invited in and shown all the factory and out-buildings. They were even offered a prize if they could find a laboratory with animals in it. They never did and quietly dispersed.

On the pharmaceuticals side though we had products tested in Syracuse in the USA where a friend of mine designed the lab and all the equipment to minimise the amount of distress. We produced some fantastic oncology drugs and special feeds for young babies amongst others. I saw testomonies from patients that would bring tears to your eyes reading about the suffering they have been spared because of animal experimentation, when it was necessary!!!

Interesting reading comments here, my fiance has Parkinsons disease and we look forward to her benefitting from research, particularly in the area of Stem Cell Research. The anti's don't seem to realise (or turn a blind eye) to other's problems. All you can do is put your case forward to any who will listen and be a conservation minded angler for both fish and environment. My Maggie has now taken up fishing and love's it, always nagging me to go out and wet a line!!.

Martin,
I sincerely hope your fiance recovers. As you say, these people have no concern about the problems of others.
