Britain's First 6lb Perch

I can believe it. I believed Peter, never doubted him.

A friend of mine told me Peter was helping a guy to net a bream on an Oxfordshire reservoir and when he saw the fish it so shocked him he ended up knocking it off the hook. It would have weighed 20 lbs, my friend said.

I can believe that. Peter felt dreadful about it apparently, I can believe that too. He was a smashing bloke not given to over-exageration.

I should add that when Peter knocked off the bream it was one of those unfortunate mishaps. Not deliberate, he wouldn't do such a thing.

I'm often waiting for John Wilson to come out with all of his favourite sayings in the same sketch:

"We're in. Oh, it's a clonker! I can't hold on to it. Well it's not as big as I first thought. It's tiny! Would you believe it? Predation in miniature."
