URGENT HELP NEEDED

My favourites folder has been inundated with websites of a very dubious and very unpleasant nature. Have tried to delete but they reappear every time I connect. Have tried the usual anti virus stuff and spybot to no avail. Locations for these are listed as C/windows/favourites, but can't be deleted this way either. I don't think these are those "dial up" type as the phone bill isn't showing anything.
Very much appreciate help from anyone else who has encountered these and disposed of them successfully.

Thanks for your response Tom. Tried the first thread and followed instructions there, this let me find where the files were hidden and after a fair bit of fiddling managed to delete them and they seem now to have gone from the favourites folder. Was called "winproc 32" hidden in the systems file of windows in case anyone else has the same problem. Was frightening to see was was hidden away without me knowing about!! Very many thanks.

Glad to help you, I have had a look on the web and found this which might interest you, it is a parasite called CoolWebSearch which I think you were infected with.

It might be worth bookmarking for future reference because there are dozens of variations doing the rounds.

If you are in ie6 cwshredder probably reset your homepage to about blank . If you manually open your home page in the browser then go into Tools - internet options - General and in the homepage box click the use current box you can then close your browser then open it again and you should get your home page back. Hope this helps to sort youre problem if it doesnt I will scour around a few sites for you to find the answer. Another thing is if you are using windows xp there is an update for the java vm machine because there is an exploit out there that an outside user can access your files through the browser, so maybe you might need to do a windows update on your system.
