complacent anglers

Are all anglers taken up with self interest, carp puddles and speci lakes???

Why are so few interested in local rivers? Whats wrong with a bit of brain testing work?

Dont get me wrong, im all for diversity within Angling and im partial to a puddle or two. even the odd pit.

But surely its about stealth and the challange? the variety of spercies and the wildlife?

Im into a bit of sea fishing and fly, but course angling is my scene. with so much empethis on rivers and the environment, Why is it i only seem to come across a few river specialist and a huge majority of carp Anglers?

Is it a regional thing?

is it ME?

there is so much to learn from our small rivers. Ok you may not Bag up, but to me its the thrill and the challenge, the stalking and targetting an indivdule fish.

Yes im happy to bag up on Bream. But a River, thinking , working, plying the game, even if i blank, provides me with more satisfaction.

picking litter, clearing debris & vehicle parts. managing the habitats above & bellow the water, provide me and the few with a sense of achivement, satisfaction and looking back over a once dirty stretch that is now 100% clear, can be no better way to end a day or improve the quality of fish , from a river that you and your collegues have cleaned.

One day im matrch fishing, baging up on mixed species, then its Carp all the Way. i like carp , within the right context. i miss the mixed bags, the character of a river or lake.

Why is it so many neglect the river or stream?

why are so few ready to clean up & protect our future sport/pastime. yet so many abuse or show no interest in a rivers wildlife environment?

a lot of rivers are overpriced and over rated access seems to be on secret service as to where and how you get on. All the best banks are ?300 per year membership fisheries make it cheaper? and easier

There's far too many anglers on some stretches of the Avon and the Stour, fortunately there are quieter stretches, albeit with less fish, but some little gems can still be found.

it might depend on which part of the country you live in, I don't know, but I prefer a nice quite stretch of river any day to a still water. There may be lots of anglers on certain stretches, particularly if it holds barbel. It's a pity really, but maybe one good reason for retaining the close season.

i don't want more people fishing rivers i can sit there quietly for most of the year in the peg i want without some one nicking it.
an if i want to fish alone i can completely away from the rest of the human race.

Valid comments lads.

I agree with all you say, maybe its because i see so few anglers taking responsible actions to protect their sport/pastime.

No I wouldnt want to see banks jambed packed with anglers, but a few more puting a bit back would be nice.

we see the same few faces taking direct action to clean up and look after the environment. yet there seems to be more prepared to become complacent and let our rights get pulled out from under our feet.

would those same Anglers stand up against any ban on angling or prohibition of angling on their local stretch?

Even David Bellamy, a non Angler told us last week, that anglers must become more responsible and stand up against the Antis & those who damage our Environment & rivers or those who would push for a Bill to outlaw angling.

Good old David Bellamy.

Our local Council decided to create a nice little park along the river which was a good winter fishery. You can't get near any swims now for overgrown bushes, berberis and firthorn, not British bushes. The local club at the time remained silent because it wasn't their water.

Ashe,
I might get some stick for this but in my expierience,a lot of anglers do a lot of shouting about what should be, but when the stuff hits the fan they prefer to leave the work or debating to others. Anglers on the whole stick together, but there are some who will defend what they are doing because it suits them, even though it may be wrong.

James,
Best banks @ ?300 per year - ribble - mess?
SOME of the day ticket stretches maybe a mess.
There's plenty of good water on the ribble but nobody will hand it to you on a plate , you've got to get out there and look for it.
Warrington AA, Preston Centre, PAAS ,RADAC and Ribblesdale Anglers are all worth checking out for quality as well as price.

Same as John, I think there are far too many anglers on some stretches of the Avon and Stour. I spend most of my time searching for big fish on the quiet stretches, although I do fish busier waters sometimes. The quiet stretches on my local rivers can be very hard and I sometimes like to visit rivers in other parts of the country where I can catch a lot of fish on lightly fished waters, even if the fish are smaller.

Jimpy, just been on the PASS web site, joining fee ?85 first year ?85 per year. According to my maths that ?170 in the 1st year and ?85 there on after!
I fish the WAA It's cheap and it excellent value for money ?30 per year, can't remember what the joining fee is.

Ilike all types of fishing on all types of venue. What I dont like are anglers who make out that one fish is more worthy than another, one method more sporting, one type of water more worthwhile than another etc.Angling snobbery/elitism/one upmanship is utter bollox normally favoured by those who wish to impress but canot do by their actions alone.
