float building process

As a obssession,the fishing for my father and for me is something more, than just catching fish, so 5 years ago, my father has made a lathe for floats(mainly pole floats).It is a real master piece of the technics, but there is a problem:the making process is to long and we can not make more than one float in a single "round".I would like to make a surprise to my father:I found a software to reckon the size and capacity of the floats,depending of the shape and the material, but I still need to do some upgrade on the lathe.CAn you give me advice for the structure of the lathe and for a float building process at all?Any kind of information will be helpfull!
