Hi,

has anyone got any experiance of this rod? I'm thinking of buying a pair (tench & barbel fishing)but would like other opinions before parting with the hard earned. I've got a couple of the Technium 2.5lb rods and they're the dogs b******s,hoping the Specialists are of similar quality.

cheers

If your talking about the 1.25lb T/C model I have had one for a couple of years now and it is fantastic.
I mainly use it for Chub fishing (quiver tip) on rivers but also employ it on my Tench fishing trips.
It looks and feels quality throughout and I would not be without it.
On another note, however, they are not cheap and I have been advised that the Greys Prodigy Barbel rods are as good and a lot cheaper with a lifetime guarantee thrown in.
Chhers, Garry.

That's the one Garry,

main concern is will it cope with the method? I may have to look at something in this price range with a little more clout.

plenty of time to decide though won't be buying before begining of June.

I agree Dave, you would be better served with something in the 1.75 T/C range.
There are also a few Tri tip models around with both 1.5 and 1.75 tips available, Wychwood and Greys are two that spring to mind.
Good Hunting, Garry.

I have a pair of Technium Specialist Avons, there is nothing I can't do with them. Bream at distance in Eire, Barbel on the severn, Chub on the Thames, Tench in a lake. Good choice of tips with the quiver, on attachments for betalights, avon tops great for all sorts of fishing.

Go get em.

Shimano Technium Specialists are my standard river rods. I think they are the best rods I have ever owned. I have made a couple of slight modifications. I have taken the silly wire rings off the quivertips and I now use the Enterprise Tackle betalite adaptors at night. I have also bought a pair of 1oz quivertips for perch and roach fishing to go with the 1.5, 2, 2.5 and 3oz tips provided. For chub I generally use the 1.5, 2 or 2.5 oz tips (all glass) or very occasionally the 1oz tips. I use the straight tops for touch ledgering. For barbel I either use the 3oz carbon tips or the straight rod top, depending on circumstances. The straight tops are very good on stillwaters and are now my standard tench rods. Very versatile rods.
