10 years ago I sold all my Shimano aero match reels and bought 4 Daiwa TDX reels. 2x2508 and 2x3012 sizes. These set me back over £1000!
The 2508 size have been used the most and are beginning to show signs of wear and tear, I toyed with the idea of getting them serviced by Daiwa but for the cost I could buy another reel.
I looked at the current 2508 TDX and at £235 I thought I’d look at the competition.
I ended up buying a Stradic C14+ RA 2500 size.
This has rear drag which I was unsure if I’d like but so far it’s been great. I tend to keep it on the same tension which suits my fishing, but I have utilised the fighting drag on occasions, which once I got used to, is less of a fumble than I first imagined.
Like the Daiwa reels it has one touch spool removal but lacks the one touch fold down handle.
The handle can be folded down by turning it backwards. I like the spool reducer idea and also the angled edge on the lip of the spool makes for smooth casting.
On the whole I like the lightness of it, although the bale arm seems a little thin and flimsy, but I suppose that add to its lightness.
I have also noticed when retrieving line, a slight wobble, the cause of which I can’t identify?
For £140 I feel I’ve got my money’s worth, only time will tell how long it lasts.
