Darent Valley Specialist landing net handle. 1.6 to 3metres.

I have been using a Conoflex extending landing net handle for years. Decent bit of kit but more than a tad heavy. I saw these in; The Tackle Box, at Dartford. I have a couple of their rods and they have been very good value. Darent Valley is their own brand.

It is supplied in a decent bag of far higher quality than the J Cloth type material the rods come in. The locking mechanism is a series of fingers that are fixed on the larger tube these are compressed by a threaded sleeve that has an internal cone. Dead simple the same as the one it is replacing. It’s slimmer than the Conoflex by far and seems strong and well made. For just short of £35 it seems a bargain.

I’ve had a Drennan Series 7 Ex Strong Carp Match 3.3m, 3 piece take apart net pole for years. Brilliant quality and strong as anything. It’s one of those Eureka pieces of kit that, having found it, you’ll never replace.

It weighs 14oz exactly, which compares very favourably with my Conoflex handle which is about a foot shorter and weighs in at a rather hefty 1lb 5oz.

On the the strength of this thread I got myself one of these as well and as Ray says its very light and seems well made.

My concern is that as its very slim it is a bit bendy when extended so I dont think I will be trying to lift anything too large without gripping the net head first.

On a positive note there is a no quibble replacement on the DV range should it fail.

I cannot speak for the darent valley landing net handle but my drennan does bend as well when extended. As for the Darent Valley Rods I have recently bought a second one and it is a real steal an excellent rod really pleased with it certainly up there with the top flights in its price range.

As i said on the hdygo thread I used the 0.75lb tc specialist for chub on Saturday and can only purr at the way the rod handled the chub's sudden lunges,fun with a definite capital F....

DV = 14oz (397g)
Conoflex = 1lb 5 oz (595g)

Gardner Specialist Extended = 1lb 2oz (513g)
Drennan Super Specialist (Twistlock) = 13oz (362g)

That makes the Conoflex sound like the Lone Angler handle I had. It was way heavier than the Gardner. You could have used the Lone Angler handle to beat people to death with.
