I'm using Pro Gold at the moment, and have done for several years, but the reviews of GT80 were interesting. Has anybody else got anything to add on GT80?
I also have used Pro Gold for several years,is it causing you problems?
If not, and it does what you need it too do, why change?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
what lines are you comparing it to then, there are a couple out there...
get hold of a copy of the tackle box catalogue, they list the stated/actual breaking strains, diameters and abrasion resistance for most of the "specialist" mono's out there.
Yep, I've got the Tackle box catalogue, I think the dark green GT80 has a slightly higher breaking strain than the light green, but there isn't much in it, about 0.75lb. I read something on the RMC Angling site that the stretch of GT80 is about 13%, whereas Pro Gold's is 22%, quite a difference. Has relavance if you don't like braid for bait work....
if you have a look around some of the other sites, most seem to prefer (gardener)gr60 gto gt80 - unless fishing at long range. sink rate on gt80 lower, and seemingly not as abrasion resistant.
I moved on fron GR60 to Daiwa Sensor in Brown...what didnt make sense ( forgive the pun ) was that Sensor seems a far better line...equally as abrasive resistant, cast better, seems ( i did not measure it ) thinner for same breaking strain and sinks easier..yet is a third of the price...
Daiwa sensor mono and power pro braid for me every time depending on the situation......tried most of them over the years and you can keep all the rest......sensor is dirt cheap and reliable, and PP is superb braid, what more do i need as a mailine?
