Why did you lose so many ?

Dunno, I always loose a fair few fish. One the hook link snapped, guess it had kinked on the cast, the rest were hook pulls or snagged me a threw the hook. It is a snaggy river.

One thing that did happen that gob smacked me, I netted the six pounder and as the line went slack the hook fell out allowing the feeder and hook (with pellet still in the band) to fall back into the water. I weighed the fish (I am trying to get me eye in on guestimating barbel) and returned it. Before I could put the net down I had to grab the rod quick to stop it going in, the barbel I had just caught and released had immediately taken the bait again, I know it was the same fish because it had no fight and weighed in at the same weight.
