Hi all,

I recently purchased a 2 piece 13ft Harrison float rod built by bevan tackle by Shaun Taylor from what I'm told. It's a plain green blank without the chimera wrap.

Does anyone have any info on this rod? I know it's a few years old and can't find much online.

I wanted it for roach and dace but seems a little on the heavy side.

Anyone know the line rating etc?

Thanks!

I guess this is the rod that sold on ebay a week or so back? I've yet to see a standard GTi blank that wasn't three piece, so that may be unlikely. Not to sure on the GTi SU or GTi SUSU. However, Harrison have sometimes done specials for certain shops and rod builders. I've even seen pics of a Mark Tunley Torrix Specialist Float and he also has his own Harrison Dark Carbon blanks. My guess, if it isn't a special, would be that it's an Interceptor blank.

Yeah that’s the one.

All I can find is that they were built exclusively for bevan tackle. Whether this is just the rod in its build or if it means the blank as a whole I’m unsure. Was just seeing if anyone here remembers them being sold.

If it's any help, it appears that Shaun (Harrison?) might have been the original rod builder for Bevan Tackle. However, when he moved on, they moved over to Vic Gibbinson.

I have their standard 13ft gti float rod and a 15ft gti s/u, both are 3 piece. Harrison blanks are often unground grey, but they grind them smooth and colour them as requested, which sort of indicates yours isn't a float rod or the blank was produced to order for a builder?
The gti float rods are quite old models, so may seem a little dated compared to modern superlight alternatives.

Click on this link, scroll to the bottom and you'll see that Harrison do, or at least did, produce an Interceptor float rod blank. The GTi is not the only float rod blank that Harrison make.

I see, the interceptor float, still listed as 3 piece, I also note they don't list the s/u float at 15ft ( which I built from blank).
Harrison's make so many bits and pieces that are not listed, who knows!

I've had a 15' GTi SU and it was definitely a three piece. However, you must be looking at something else to me with regards to the Interceptor float rod. I see no mention of how many pieces it is.

I wouldn't worry, with you mentioning making up your own rods, I just presumed you had a trade catalogue in front of you.:)

Just rummaged through the shed and found a couple of old trade catalogues (going back a few years when I built). Most recent is 2011, which lists the 2 interceptor models, (long/medium range) but not the float version. Under float rods there's just the Gti range including the Su and sux2 versions in different lengths.
An old 2004 catalogue has along with the same Gti range, an 11ft6 Match special, 11ft6 Explorer (big brother of the match special, it says) and the Interceptor 12ft9 - float rod based on the 13ft su but with a touch more power.
Only the Gti range mentioned as 3 sections, nothing about the others.

Sorry I didn't get a notification that anyone had replied. The seller assured me he worked in the shop that sold these and they were a blank specifically built for the shop and no one else. I've passed the rod to a friend now as it was what he was looking for. I've sorted myself a stick/waggler rod out now, although I'm yet to try it out. I'm potentially looking at having an su gti built now so I'll hopefully have all bases covered with regards to float fishing.

Bevan rods built on Harrison blanks were often advertised in the now defunct CAT magazine. I may be mistaken but I understand the original proprietor of Bevan Tackle passed away and thir custom rod builder, Shaun, moved on thereafter.
The rod you refer to is a two piece specialist float exclusive to Bevan, designed for easy transportation in a sleeve whilst tackled up. The blank is very similar to the interceptor float rod with a test curve of about 1lb making it a superb tench weapon.
I recall Chris Turnball writing a very positive review of the rod and possibly even refers to it in his book "A time for tench".
hope this helps.
Paul.
