Default Bog ordinary rear rod rest head

When did these become extinct ? I went up the local ts today to get a couple and they had precisely none. Drennan did a very simple non- slip u shaped rear rest but not anymore it seems.

Every rear rest there was either designed to fit the arm of a gizmo chair or box or designed to grip your carp rod so tight you'd need a crowbar to get it out. I dont want those, I just want a bog ordinary rear rod rest head.

A search of th'interwebby produced nothing. Anybody know where I can get a couple ?

Your best bet is to look on ebay, there are lots like the drennan u shaped ones.
The korum Y shaped ones are good to use as a rear rest also as they have slightly longer arms and it's not quite so easy to knock your rod off with your hand etc when fiddling about.

If you can't get a non slip, just the regular type, just run a bead of hot melt glue on the faces.

I recently broke my last surviving standard Drennan rear rest and was surprised to find that they appear to have been discontinued. They appear to have updated the matching specialist front rests with a metal threaded insert, but discontinued the rear rest. I'm puzzled as to why.

On looking for alternatives, I ended up trying a Gardner and a Middy. I prefer the Gardner, though I did have fun and games getting it screwed into a bankstick properly as the head rotates on the threaded brass insert. Once fettled, it has been fine.

Not really, Keith. I had some like that and didnt get on with them.

I quite like those Gardner ones, Chris....i think that's about as close as I'm going to get. I just dont understand why Drennan has seen fit to discontinue what IMO was the perfect rear rest for general all round fishing.

Before I dive in what in God's name is "fettling".....I dont speak Northern.

Literally, it's a term for cleaning the rough edges of a piece of pottery or a metal casting.

Colloquially, it means to repair or modify almost anything.

Specifically, it meant gripping the threaded brass insert to screw it into a bankstick tightly enough that it didn't unscrew of its own accord. It couldn't be done by turning the whole head as the plastic bit just revolved on the brass insert.

Skippy There are shops up here called Boyes, very similar to what Woolies were when they did everything. They sell metal u shape rear rests.
I cannot abide the plastic headed ones as they have a tendency to shatter when trying to push them in and cutting my hand.

Keith, I also use those for gripping the butt when carping but I find them too narrow for ordinary rods with a cork handle.
