Pole top kits questions?

Can you fish with a top kit? I ask as I've seen poles for loads of money with many sections, but then top kits for the same pole, maybe 5 sections for under a £100. Can you use just a top kit for fishing short, or do you need the whole pole? I've brought whips but never a pole, so I'm green.

Yes you can, but obviously not very far out!

I very occasionally fish just a top kit but it is dependent on the venue and actual peg.

Generally if fishing a margin I prefer to fish at least 4 sections, as fish very close are often quite spooky.

You can get a pole for under £100 that is useable.
