I'm sure Philip and Another Dave have one and like it. No doubt they will respond in due course if I'm right.

Yes I have one. I wrote a bit about it here ..

In terms of "power" I guess thats going to be subjective but its a small stream rod that was designed for use on little chalk streams down in the South (the clues in the name)..where the target species is going to be Dace, Roach and Chub.

I would be pretty confident using it to land just about any Chub so fine for fish up to say 5 or so pounds maybe a bit more and as with any rod you always have a chance with larger fish. However I dont really see it as a rod for big fish so I would not use mine intentionally for say middle sized Barbel for example.

I match mine up with 4lb line and light link ledgers up to about three quarters of an ounce and it seems balanced like that to me anyway.

One thing I will add since I wrote about it in the other thread ...I have since broken mine...the middle section snapped just below where the quiver pushes in. I was not really doing anything wrong, just pulled the line round and it snapped. The Tackle Box have a no quibble guarantee for it have already said they will replace the section free of charge when I can next get over to them. Until then I sawed the broken bit off and the quiver still pushes in ok.

The point being that imo its not super duper top quality ...but then again I am not expecting that either for £50. Overall I am still happy with it.

I have two. I use them for hard fighting, leaping fish here in Bangladesh. But I tend to use them where I expect fish around a maximum of two kgs (say 4 1/2 lbs) but have caught fish to well over 5 Kgs (12 pounds to be exact). While they handled that easily enough in a snagless small pool, I still think of them as my rods for smaller fish. They are great rods for the money and especially in cramped pegs or small streams. I have no hesitation in recommending them or The Tackle Box, with whom I have had extensive dealings. Very “fit for purpose” rods.

All the best

Lakhyaman.

Thanks for that,I thought a seven or eight rod would/could be a nice option on the small river I fish,I can get a 7ft 1.75lb tc from AD,but it looks too pokey, they do a 5.5ft 1.5lb tc,but the quivertip on those look too fine and liable to break,I would say that I would hook barbel, chub etc,but on lines around 6lbs,so I would be expecting a fight,I used the 0.75lb tc rod and had barbel to 6lbs,maybe more,it was great fun,but hairy...

Its worth saying that my initial thought when I was buying it was that I would be using it with 6lb line as well, however once I got it and took a closer look I thought 6lb was maybe a tad too much so teamed it with 4lb line and I have been happy with that decision. Of course someone else may look at it and consider it perfect for 6lb line...

I don’t consider it either pokey or too fine either, imo they have got it about right for what they designed it for …small stream fishing for anything from Dace up to Chub size. For that its spot on I think.

Basically it fills a gap that none of the other rods I have can really fill so its nice to have as an option and as it packs up very small you can tuck it away in the boot of the car just in case.

Thanks Philip,i'm stuck really,as the water in question leaves you no choice but hook barbel, but roach, dace and chub are there in numbers and are worthy targets, the 6lb mainline is a safeguard for reed rubbing barbel, when floatfishing I use 3lb,the idea of a short rod appeals as often fish are very close in,under your feet in fact....

Alan have a look for a Greys Toreon 8' 1" feeder rod at about £65 from Bobco if they have any left. A lovely rod and I shall be using mine tomorrow. These originally retailed for £140 and I got mine for £54. A bargain imo.

The biggest fish I had on mine was a lively feral carp around 5lb, floatfishing the margins of the local pond one summer evening. The rod handled it very well. What it's really nice for is tiny rivers, stick on a mini baitrunner with 6lb braid and you can rover around with a link ledger or piddle about with some light lures depending on your mood. I use the slighlty stiffer yellow tip 90% of the time.

Dave, this really is a small stream i'm fishing, but that can make it tight when you hook decent chub and renegade barbel....

I guess it depends how large the barbel go. We don't have barbel here so it's not something I've thought about.

Barbel go to low doubles, but in the main 2-6lbs,i'm quite confident when playing fish on most rods, for example, playing double figure carp,or barbel to 7lbs on a Drennan Acolyte ultra, and I play fish to the limits of my gear, lines, hooks etc,I really like the 0.75lb Darent Valley, had a few barbel on that, great fun....

Hi Dave are you still fishing the Can and Wid?

Hardly fished at all this last year or so but hope to get back out on the Can in the new season. The nearest stretch of the Wid is run by a club and I'm not a member, so that's a bit more tricky.
