It’s interesting to see the photo of the fish, at first I thought it was a pike (Esoxlucius). I now know that it’s a US species, but it’s I don’t know what type of pickerel it is. It sounds like you had a good evening’s fishing.

Those boga grips are hideous contraptions and should not be used. Awful for fish welfare.

Learn to chin if that is possible, unsure how that species compares to pike but it looks similar so I'd approach it in the same way.

But please, do not use those grips....

One for Saint Ambrose - 'When in Rome... '. Bogas are widely used in the USA , I believe .
