Not strictly a rod building question I know, but I have an original drennan specialist avon duo rod and over the years its picked up a few scratches and is looking a bit tatty.

These rods had a raw satin type finish (no varnish) and are vulnerable to marking and I was wondering if anyone has any tips or polish recommendations etc to spruce it up a bit?

I wouldn't worry about it mate.

I often put muck and scratches on my rods on purpose to make them look used and to prevent them getting shiny.

Don't want a rod reflecting sunlight, do we.

Definately don't want it shiny, just to tidy it up a bit.

Its not a big problem obviously, but these are the best chub rods ever made (in my opinion) and I'd like to keep it A1 so it goes on forever.

If it is actually scratched I think all you can do is flat those scratches down and then drip melted candle wax over it. Polish off the wax and you will find that you have a smooth, flat, non-shiny finish that won't get on your line and make it float like baby oil will.

I drip and polish wax on all my carbon rod spigot joints, it stops them wearing, feels better, always releases and keeps them looking like new.

Yes, it does hurt a bit as you smooth it flat with your fingertip.
