Section of Fishery or river stretch: Severn, grimley
Date: 14 march 2002
Time fished: 10 am to 5:50 pm
Weather conditions: windy, cloudy
Water conditions: About normal river level
Water Temperature: not taken
Bait: boilies/paste/meat/pellets
Method: ledger (two rods) after barbel
Results: blank (A Hat Trick of em!!!)
Brief description of the session and any remarks: The river looked in top class condition. Had one pull on meat - possibly a skimmer. Used activ-8 home made boilies/paste, 10mm richworth esterberry boilies, meat and halibut pellets.

Considering the conditions it was a disaster. Last three trips to the severn have been blanks. Very sad end to the season.

Location: Riv Severn @ Severn Stoke
Date: 25th Sep 2002
Time: 8pm to 11pm
Weather: warm, dry (A Drought!)
Water conds: River VERY VERY low & slow. Tactics: I'm after Zander! Two Roach deadbaits on running leger rigs, using Fox leger stems.
Results: 4 tentative runs, no fish landed (Ouch!).
Tactics to be revised next time as the extra finicky Zander takes are proving impossible to hit. A freelining approach next time with a large single hook instead of trebles...

Section of Fishery or river stretch:below Welshpool
Date: 21.02.03
Time fished: 0830-1745
Weather conditions:Fine, sunny spells but cold
Water conditions: had been very high but was probably around normal winter level, fairly coloured - but then the Severn usually is!
Air temperature: 1C on arrival, 4C when we left
Water Temperature: not taken
Bait:Maggot/caster; boilies, bread, cheesepaste, worm
Method: Trotting maggot & caster for first couple of hours, moved and went onto tip trying all the above baits over the day.
Results: Blank
Brief description of the session & remarks: Not a bite all day, two others in the party had a bream 2nd cast and a pike at the death but neither had another touch.

We had planned a session on the Ribble but felt that the conditions were against us and we had a better chance on the Severn - maybe we were wrong - Graham & Dave did ok the day before!

Section of Fishery or river stretch:above Shrewsbury
Date: 18/19.06.04
Time fished: 1800-0700
Weather conditions:Initially windy and cool with sunny spells. Nighttime was still and clear with a frost around 4am, rain for last half hour.
Water conditions: low but coloured with some floating debris.
Air temperature: 15C on arrival falling close to freezing then up to 12C as we left
Water Temperature: not taken but felt warm
Bait:pellet, Corn & worm
Method: Feeder and straight lead
Results: Blank (except for 3 ruffe - one foul hooked.)
Brief description of the session & remarks: We had visions of a glorious night session but three of us had not a bite until, in the last half hour after a move upstream I contacted the ruffe! We were trying various approaches but the river seemed dead apart from the occasional heavy splash - that may have been salmon. FROST in mid-june???

Weather conditions:Sunny & calm
Water conditions:slow & gin clear
Air temperature:18C
Water Temperature:
Bait:Single boilie wrapped in paste
Method:worked under far margins free-lined
Results:chub of 5lb 7oz & 3lb
Brief description of the session & remarks: Typical of Severn fishing in this area, lots of walking to find signs of fish. Fishing time is limited to a couple of hours a week, so pile in the hemp, leave to rest for half hour then return. Flicked paste wrapped boilie to far margin and trundled under bushes. Bang! 5lb 7oz chub. Just before 8.30 pm getting dark, bang, small chub of 3lb. Is good to see smaller chub grace the banks, nice to know there are fish to replace the bigguns in later years..

Date: 18/9/04
Time fished: 9.30 am to 3.45pm
Weather conditions: Mixed, Rain Am, Sunny PM
Water conditions: Rising River, A tinge of Colour but definitely carrying extra water
Air temperature: High 50's
Water Temperature: Average
Bait: Pellets/Hemp as feed, Meat on hook
Method: Feeder, mid river
Results: 1 2lb Chub and 2 Barbel of around 7/8lb each
Brief description of the session & remarks: A few anglers were fishing the faster, shallow water without much luck. I decided on a long walk to the deeper glides below the rapids and managed 2 decent Barbel. Too many anglers head to the white water where it's more diffiuclt to catch especially at this time of year.

Method:feeder
Results:20 barbel 1 pike thats right 20
Brief description of the session & remarks:got on the peg at 9-30 first cast 9-45 had to take 10 barbel out of the net at 12-15 i thought of them getting stressed.but was wrong as they were as lively then as when i caught them. these were the best condition fish i,d ever seen. fought like trojans and didn,t need any help going back in.
thought i might of killed the swim then the next cast produced the pike.
had a break then started again at 13-30 the first session just repeated itself over again.in total smallest barbel 4.5 then all the rest ranging from 5 upwards to the best 4 fish above 8lb emptied the net again at 1700 both times with the aid of the better half pam who also supplied tea and scones
all day long also got some photo,s but not to good as were panicking to much to release the fish slippy bank didn,t help too much.
had a variety of baits with me but caught every fish with triple bronzy on a 12 animal barbless 4lb bottom and 6lb main line never got a chance to try another bait.
this is the best day i,ve ever had fishing in weight and in barbel numbers. some years never had that many all season. got told on the next stretch up producing nothing so imust of just sat on them. 3 days later still buzzing role on next season
