I’m looking to get a rod refurbished, has anyone a good recommendation for a builder who does refurb jobs? I’m looking for someone who builds with love and attention to detail. For example a builder willing to build up a handle with individual cork rings, not just glue on 5in parallels etc.

Thanks in advance...

I think Peter Jacobs probably knows someone -- He has rods refurbished from time to time ..... drop him a PM .....

The chap I used has now retired, sadly.

I think that Tim Watson still does rebuilds, but usually only in split cane.

Then there is always Paul Cook, but he has a long waiting list and isn't the cheapest on the planet. Split Cane Rods - Fine hand built cane rods by Paul Cook

For 'modern' rods then maybe give one of these a try:

Bruce Ashby: Bruce Ashby Rods - Home

Yateley Angling centre: Carp Fishing Tackle Shop - Rods, Reels, Bait | Yateley Angling Centre

Leslie's of Luton: Carp, Barbel, Specialist, Coarse, Pike and Predator fishing tackle

You will probably find that they all have a good size waiting list, but the wait is usually well worth it in the end.

Hope this helps, and I'm sure that others will have alternative suggestions too.

if you're anywhere near didcot in oxfordshire

clive turner at didcot angling center got one rebuilt for me a few years back.

i had to check it 3 times to make sure it was the same rod when it came back it looked like he'd slipped me a brand new one instead.

Nice to see you Jase.

There is also a fella called Kev Baines who lives near Stoke on Trent who is highly recommended by those in these parts.

Still no luck finding a rod builder. I didn’t fancy sending it to one of the big tackle shops, or the cane guys. I’m looking for someone who does work like Andy & Jill Orme used to, at SEER, a good finish on carbon, not a work or art, but then again not just hurriedly finished, just another rod etc...
