I have a four piece Hardy Avon Specialist Smuggler 11' 6" (Hardy didn't like giving a t.c. but I pushed them and they said approx 1lb 10ozs),imo match rods are my bugbear,as better 12ft rods are mostly two piece, you can pick up some Maver rods at the cheaper end that are three piece, sadly not up to the level action wise that I would want...

I agree, try and get a top quality 12fter that's three piece,if ever we get a chance to meet up at a fish in I will bring my 12' titan 2000,12fters are my length of choice rods, sadly you can't buy many,so it's 11' or 13',I don't like longer rods than 13' either, trouble is proper float fishing is a dying trade, its all poles and feeders...

being like a carp angler and having rods that are set up from one session to another IS lazy, because imo lines need cutting back, floats need re-shotting as moving shot damages line, especially on 2-4lb lines,I like fresh hooklengths, tied on the morning, that doesn't seem ott to me,just cutting down risks..

Alan I agree what you describe above is being lazy (and foolish) however there are hundreds of Anglers (me included) who setup their float tackle from scratch at home before placing it into a rod sleeve; Leaving only the plumbing up and final shotting adjustments to do on the bank.

You should 't paint all Anglers who carry rods ready made up with the same paint brush like a lot of Anglers often do.

I am one of the lazy ones, my pike rods are setup, my feeder rods are setup, my lure rods are set up, all my pole rigs are made at home and just clipped on by the water. But I always knew the waters I would be fishing and what was required.
The only time I set up on the bank is float fishing.

Don't understand why he can't get a 2 piece 12 ft rod in a small car? I have a two seater very small car and I get them in on the passenger side by putting them at the bottom of the footwell leaning against the back of the passenger seat. Ok I can't take a passenger with me but I can meet my fishing buddies there. So why can't he do the same?
Toyota Aygo.

I given him one off my Dennan series 7 rods gathering dust.

Sorry but it sounds like excuses from your friend. If he really wanted to go fishing then then he would find a way of transporting rods.
Tele rods are not as good but it would be fishing non the less.
I have a dedicated small fishing car. Longer rods are housed with the rear seats flat and poked between the front seats at shoulder level.
I have 4 piece NGT travel carp rods and some LRF rods can be used for leadgering.

A quick check on Ebay has thrown up a couple of multi section rods. One was an Abu.
Another was carp rods.

I couldn't get my pole in the car so I bought a bus.
I'd still like to know what the OP's friend's problem actually is.

I'm going to assume it is this:

He, coming back after many years, took his old set up to a local day ticket place.

He met some twat who told him because this (and everywhere else) is now a carp puddle that his float rod is not good enough and he needs a 2lb test curve 15lb line bivvybuddy setup to be fair to the big carp.

He tried to find something that would meet their requirements but there's nothing in 3 piece.

He says, f--k this bul-hit excuse for fishing and returns to stamp colleting.

Couldn't have put it better myself. God knows what they will say when I turn up with my cane rods and start catching.

Knowing the local commies, I doubt this. They aren't popular with the bivvy types and they aren't generally encouraged to fish them.

This bit is likely. However, rather than the carp rods/buzzers/boilies/15lb line being the likely recommendation, I'd be more inclined to believe that the latest commie carp crunching, yank'n'bank, 9-12' pellet waggler rod as being the likely recommendation.

Despite "carp puddles" being full of carp, they generally aren't full of carpers. Not everyone fishing for carp can reasonably be called a carper. Proper carpers wouldn't be seen dead on the local commies.

32 posts in, and we're still speculating what the OP's friend's problem is. If we're told what fishing he wants to do and what's stopping him from doing it, we might be able to make suggestions about rods that will do it and fit in his car. Why ask a question so vague it can't be answered?

We are going round in circles without an answer. If he lived close to me I would gladly pass on one of my unused 3 piece carp waggler rods. Not top of the range but they worked for me.

I bought a 3 piece 13' Leeda concept carp waggler rod about 15 years ago, brilliant rod had mid double carp on it as well as silver fish, even used it as a long pellet waggler rod. They weren't on the market for long.
Leeda have reintroduced a concept range, there are some 3 piece rods in the range.
Any Daiwa 3 piece waggler rod would do, Have a look at the D match range.

The Leeda rod is one sitting unused in the shed. I also used it for trotting for chub with heavy float tackle.

He is 76 and usually fished the local beck tell lock down kicked in. He usually walks with a stick now so adventures to a river are limited now.
He just wants to fish without some idiot telling him he has the wrong gear, bait sitting in a folding chair and youths casting feeders in his peg he is fishing laughing yelling. I first met him in 1972 catching Dace and Roach on a pin and blue match rod

That sounds awful. It shouldn't be happening. Is there a fishery he can go to with a bailiff/owner on site? A couple of the places I go to, youths behaving like that would be put off the fishery. It sounds as if it's not really a tackle problem, it's more a case of finding the chap a place where he doesn't get bullied by juvenile scum. Or maybe seeing if he can find another angler to go with or meet on the bank so he's not on his own.
