Shakespeare Cypry 6000 Freespool bait running reel 5.6:1 rubbing noise

Hi I’ve just bought Shakespeare Cypry 6000 Freespool bait running reel 5.6:1 220m, and as soon as I put any weight on them there’s a rubbing noise like something is scraping.im not a fishing pro, but when you take the top off the reels it doesn’t seem to do it anymore. Could anyone out there help me please. Thanks

When you say take the top off, I presume you mean the spool ,?

Are the reels new,?
If so check the inside of the spool, and also the outer edge on the reel where the spool would go over once in place, are they a push button to release the spool from reel or do you have to unscrew a "plate" of front of the spool.,?
I would still take them back to where /who you got them from. It could be something or nothing, the person you got them off may say you are doing something wrong and show how you how it should be done.

I’ve done a video but it said to large to up load. Is the spool suppose to lock tight after a certain amount of twists? Because it does not

The other reel now will not reel back in ? it hold the tension on the line with a weight on, but it will not reel back in

Check there is no line behind the spool ie wrapped around the main axle. Does the spool move up and down on rewind? Ensure you click over the bail arm ie engage it . It sounds like you bought 2 so you could compare the difference if one works. A washer may be loose. Does the baitrunners clutch engage and disengage as it should? Is the drag working? Remove a spool and check it is seated properly on the reel body before tightening up.

These are a cheap reel certainly on price and maybe on quality.

 

[The bad one]

My guess is you are not seating the spool properly on the shaft on the one that's not winding backwards. When you put the spool on, slowly turn the spool around until it drops on the T bar on the shaft and into the cross cut hole on the spool. As to the scrapping as you wind the handle, which rotates the head, sounds to me that the head is not running around true and slightly oscillating and catching the plate it revolves around. Check the central large nut around the spindle that its screwed tight IT USUALLY IS A LEFT HAD THREAD. And to tighten it you turn it to the left not the right. If the nut is tight then there something else wrong with the centralisation of the head and that’s a specialist job to sort it out. Not to be attempted unless you are skilled in servicing reels.

 

[The bad one]

Had another think about this problem, it may be simpler than I thought. Under the spool and against the toothed wheel on the spindle there should be a plastic washer. Take off the spool carefully and check whether the wash is against the wheel or on the underside of the spool. If it is not there it will have been lost and will need replacing.

The washer serves two functions to hold the spool away from the wheel as a spacer and allow it to spin around. And to stop you clamping the spool down to the wheel stopping it functioning correctly and possibly causing the grating noise you are hearing. If, however, the washers are there then revert to the first post.

If absent you can make such washers from margarine tub tops by first drilling a hole (just smaller than spindle size) in a piece of square cut plastic from the top, then cutting it down to size and the round shape with a sharp pair of smallish scissors. Depending on how thick the wash was you might have to make a couple to get the same thickness. It’s trial and error this bit and a bit of patience to get it right.

The other way is buy some rubbish reels on a car boot for couple of quid and cannibalise them for the washers. Checking first before you buy them that they have washers in them. Most of these washers are there or there about the same hole diameter.

You are turning the handle the correct way,and not got the anti reverse switch on. ,?
If it was me I would be paying a visit to the person you got them off, he has either ripped you off or it is a simple solution to solve if you have overlooked something.

Yeah he’s saying they were new, he’s gave me a little bit of money back but not a lot, bought as seen he’s saying,
