The Original Okuma Red T40X Rod Lives Again in The Guide Select Line!
Roughly 5yrs ago i bought my first Okuma TX40 Float Rod online. After i fell in love with it for whipping "spin casting" I convinced a few local stores to bring it in. For local whipping it became a hit! This rod originally was meant for the Pacific Northwest Anglers targeting Trout, Steelhead & Salmon. I used it mostly at night for reds & Scads. Daytime worked well w/grubs for Jacks & Bonefish. Even hooked & landed Cownose Rays in the 20-40lb range. Impressive rod!

After communicating with John Bretza of Okuma he told me they discontinued that line because of demographics but re-invented & improved it under Guide Select Pro Series. It's like the Rockaway Rods that were made for the Oregon Surf Casters going for Sea Perch. That rod also found a home in Hawaii whipping & light dunking "live/dead bait casting" for inshore species like Jacks & Bonefish.

I had also purchased an Okuma Helios HCS 40S Spinning Reel just for this rod. I spooled 15lb Soft Steel Eminent Braid using Sportsman Innovation's Big Water Fishon Spooler onto the Helios. Feels good & looks awesome. Can't wait to go rock hopping over the lava flows at night once the surf drops back down (got swept out in 18-22ft swells years back on an inner reef).
