Upper thames barbel ?

Having just moved to wiltshire nr letchlade i find i have quite a bit of the upper thames on my doorstep , most of my barbel fishing has been on the lower thames from reading right up to walton .
are they worth chasing ? are there barbel that far up . dont want chapter and verse - just a idea .

The barbel are definitely up there,numbers are low,as in many venues,location is quite difficult,there are some big fish present,are they worth persuing,that depends on how many blanks you can endure....
