Publisher’s Overview

‘Four Seasons on the Hampshire Avon’ has been a labour of love by the film maker, angler and reel maker Paul Witcher. Filmed over a period of three years, he has beautifully captured the changing moods, atmosphere, angling and wildlife of this lovely river.

While focussing on astonishing footage of angling for barbel, chub, carp, roach, trout and pike, the film is also dedicated to the natural history of this rich environment. So creatures such as the barn owl, water vole and brown hare are just as much the stars of the film as a 25lb pike, an 11lb barbel and a 2lb roach.

It features John Searl, Peter Baker, Peter Orchard, John Slader and Peter Williamson.

Written and narrated by Jason Inskip.

verdict

This DVD is simply brilliant! Sit back and relax with a film in the old style that mixes wildlife with edge of seat action that will take your breath away.

The narration never intrudes but does just enough to tell you what’s happening, a bit like Jack Hargreaves at his best where the film does the talking, yet with modern film quality. Those expecting detailed technical data at every twist and turn may be disappointed but it was never intended to be that sort of film.

Having sat through some terminally dull pole fishing DVDs this was a breath of fresh air. Just to check it wasn’t the enthusiastic angler in me getting carried away I got my wife and her non-angling father to sit through it and they found it equally fascinating.

I won’t spoil the watching by giving you a blow by blow account though I know that Paul was delighted with the fish caught on camera.

Faults? None that will spoil your enjoyment. The only problem watching it on a cold winter’s evening is that you end up wanting to go fishing!

Should you buy it? I think so, for it is in the tradition of ‘A Passion for Angling’ but far better.
