Guess the Weight Competition

Estimating the weight of any fish from a photograph is difficult at best and in some shots taken with an ultra wide angle lens, almost impossible.

The angle at which the picture is taken has a great bearing on how true to life the fish is seen, as is the size of the angler and how he’s holding the fish, ie, pushing the fish towards the camera or holding it close to his body, etc.

Greg Whitehead caught this Nene barbel last Monday night, 21st July. As you can see he’s not pushing the fish towards the camera and the shot wasn’t taken with a wide angle lens. Greg’s a big lad of over 6ft tall and while not exactly a salad dodger, he’d last longer than most if he was deprived of food.

The same fish can also be seen on a landing net over an unhooking mat with a tobacco pouch alongside to act as a visual aid.

Just for fun, take a guess at the weight of the fish.

but to make it more interesting, Greg will give a bag of 10 of the new Drennan blockend feeders to the FM member who guesses the nearest weight.

In the event of more than one person guessing the correct weight there will be an eliminating question.

All answers will be in the form of forum replies to the thread that starts below. Being as this is mainly a fun competition discussion of the fish and any related topic is welcome.

ONLY ONE GUESS PER MEMBER!

The competition will end on Wednesday midnight, 30th July, and Greg will announce the winner on the forum thread on Thursday, 31st July and post the prize directly.
