A junior angling competition was held on Saturday, 27 September 2003 to celebrate a partnership between the Environment Agency and Wychavon District Council that has provided improved facilities for anglers at Heriotts Pool, Droitwich.

Eight new angling platforms have been installed and access for the disabled has been improved.

For the Environment Agency Andy Roberts said “We have found that there are three reasons why people do not take up angling. Firstly they lack somewhere to go. Secondly someone to show them how to fish and lastly the equipment to use. This project has improved access to angling in a town centre location where suitable facilities are limited. As part of the project the pool will be made available to the Agency for junior angling events.”

Lynn Stevens of Wychavon District Council commented “I am really pleased with what we have been able to achieve through this partnership. Heriotts Pool now provides excellent, attractive facilities within easy reach of the town centre, an alternative to Vines Park where fishing is not permitted for safety reasons.

“I would encourage any youngsters keen on this sport to come along to the events and enjoy the fishing with tips from the experts.”
