The much-read Irish Specimen Fish list for 2000 has been published and pride of place goes to Anfield sea angler Keith Gray with a new record smooth hound weighing 16.58lb.

Keith was staying in Rosslare and boat fishing off Carne Beach when he hooked his prize fish on lugworm bait.

Other new records established last season includes a terrific 17lb 13oz bass caught from the shore in Clare, a 27lb coalfish off Courtmacsherry and a 48lb 8oz ling. Also off Cork’s Courtmacsherry.

The 60-page booklet is published annually and is a great guide to where Ireland’s biggest coarse, sea and game fish can be caught because it lists all of the year’s specimen catches and where they came from.

Thousands of anglers travel to Ireland for fishing holidays each year and can gain a great deal of help from visiting the Board’s brand new web site, which also links forward to the various regional fishery boards.Have a look on www.cfb.ie
