Form has picked up markedly since last week. Star performer isFounders Pool which in the first two days of opening has produced twocarp in excess of twenty pounds. Water keeper, Phil wain reports thatthe water has gone carp crazy, with one angler landing a dozen fishin a seven hour session. Alongside members fishing for carp, aremembers using lighter tackle and bagging up on perch, rudd andspecimen roach, most coming to magotts of any colour.

On nearby Spring Pool action is picking up very nicely indeed.Last Friday I witnessed the biggest silver orfe (ide) I have everseen, weighing in at four and a quarter pound. This fish was caughton double maggot as the Sun went down, by my better half Sue. Thefish did not give an epic fight in the water, but once out it gave agood account of itself, once succumbed it was plain that it was inpristine condition, and looked superb. This was the last of foursilver orfe landed by Sue, who reported the others at just underthree pounds each.

Committee member, Ian Taylor, took time out to spend an afternoonon the Sankey Canal, alongside the Tip Road, last Thursday.Accompanied by his angling companion Austin Taylor (no relation),they both enjoyed fast and furious action, delivered to them byroach, skimmers and perch. Ian reports that he just managed to getthe better of Austin, and estimated his catch at just over thirtypounds.

Ian made specific mention of the perch, due to their chunky buildand vigourous fight. Whets the appertite, doesn’t it?

Jimmy and Alan Ogburn have been making numerous trips to VillagePool. “We just cant go wrong on their” quotes Jimmy. Carp have beenvery obliging and have become their target species for the timebeing, although roach, bream, perch and rudd have made their presencewell felt..

Over the road on Whitley Pool, sport has switched on with tenchand carp now feeding hard. Pegs are limited on this water at themoment, due to the increase in water levels, nevertheless it can begenerally accessed, with the effort well worthwhile.

New Pool, Grimsditch Pool and Statham Pool are alive with fish, with all their respective fish species feeding hard and providingexcellent sport. On Longbarn Pool and Abbey Lake action is superb, with mixed bags of fish the norm. Lymm Dam has improved no end, withspecimen hunters and pleasure anglers being well catered for. BailiffKev Peers reports, that the sport switched on with a vengeance as thecolour dropped out, during the fine weather of last weekend.

There have been reports of poaching on Woodside Pool, not only isthis pool closed due to an imposed closed season, it is also affectedby restrictions relating to the foot and mouth outbreak. Withoutdoubt these anglers are not members, and the restrictions alsorestrict the activities of our bailiffs. Nevertheless, if you seeanybody on the water when you pass, please do not hesitate to get intouch with any Club official, or the police direct.
