Some good news regarding access to waters, previously restricteddue to foot and mouth precautions. Our stretch of the River Dane atManor Farm in Sproston is now open, however it must only be accessedvia the footpath which runs from the main road. This access isindicated in the Club’s information book. Members must not access thestretch through Manor Farm farmyard.

Another water we can declare open is the stretch of River Severnat Atcham, which is attached to Lower Brompton Farm. This is afavoured stretch of river, which hs been virtually angler free sincelast March and will fish very well. Reports please.

Staying on the rivers, what reports I am getting from membersfishing the River Dee are very encouraging. There are plenty ofroach, dace and small chub being caught, which is good news indeedwhen you consider the river suffered an almost wipe out, followingone of the worse pollution incidents in recent times.

The Bollin and Wincham Brook are fishing to form, which is verygood, with all the normal river species coming to all methods, although static baits seem to account for the bigger fish.

There are indications that the River Severn has had exceptionalruns of salmon this year. It will be very interesting when the catchinformation is produced by the Environment Agency. Lets hope it comeswith an explanation as why this should be, when other noted salmonrivers, such as the Lune, appear to be in decline.

Last week Brian Alltree enjoyed a mammoth catch of carp fromBelmont Pool. After catching twenty two of the species, averaging8.5lb, it was easy to work out that he caught an estimated catch ofnearly 190lb. Adjacent Willow Pool is producing more carp perangler, albeit that the average weight of fish from this water isless at 4lb, it does provide excellent fishing.

Unfortunately the Club has had to include Lymmvale into the listof waters temporarilly closed to night fishing. This is due to therebeing no significant improvement in the littering and soilingproblems. On a positive note it has galvanised other members toreport situations they perhaps would not have reported otherwise. Asa result of this the Club has three less members following theexpulsion of these members found to be responsible for littering. Please continue with this assistance. The Club and angling in generaldon’t need these selfish and anti-social sorts within its ranks.

Just to finish this week’s column on a positive note, head waterkeeper Mick Gater has just reported two carp landed on Lymm Dam to aday-ticket angler, one being 24lb and the other weighing in at 28lb.This brace of fish was caught in the space of just two hours, from apeg close to the dam wall. Mick witnessed the 28lb fish, and reportedit as being in magnificent condition.
