Chris Ponsford fished the Barbel Society stretch of the lower Severn at Beauchamp Court to take the sixth biggest ever barbel from the river.

He fed maggots and boilies and fished a boilie hookbait wrapped in paste to take the 15lb 5oz fish at dusk.

The best ever Severn barbel, and a British record at the time, was netted by Howard Maddocks in 1997. It weighed 16lb 3oz and was also taken from the lower river below Worcester.
