It proved to be a very successful day for Barnsley & District at the inaugural Angling Trust Team Commercial Stillwater Championship, finishing with a fantastic weight of 428.365kg for their ten man team and demonstrating both their local knowledge and their experience of fishing commercials.

The Team Stillwater Championship was split over three Fisheries: Garbolino Lindholme Lakes, Hayfield Lakes and Daiwa Hallcroft Fishery and as the results were decided on weight, rather than points, it was going to be an interesting match as a good weight from any individual on the day could help seal a team win.

Methods and tactics varied on the day over the three venues with most anglers feeding half way out then changing tactics to feed into the margins when the catches slowed down and some good catches were recorded.

Team Results

1st  Barnsley & District – 428.365kg

2nd Matrix Dynamite Trentmen – 360.295kg

3rd Garbolino Lindholme B Team – 352.745kg

In the individual results Barnsley & District recorded medal place finishes again with James Dent taking the gold medal with a brilliant haul of carp of 96.900kg from Hallcroft Fishery from an end peg on Moat pool. James fished with corn and pellet at 5 metres then changed to corn and pellet at 13 metres in front of him. He then started feeding groundbait and dead maggots down the margins to continue to catch to the end of the match.

In second place, drawn at Garbolino Lindholme Lakes, was Mark Taylor of Shakespeare Superteam recording a weight of 76.060kg from peg G2, with another Barnsley squad member, Andy Geldart finishing in third place recording 71.400kg from peg F9.
