Sad Start to the Wigan & District AA fourth round ‘Teams of Four’

There was a sad start to the start of the Wigan & District AA fourth round ‘teams of four’ when it was announced that association stalwart Brian Whitehead died on Thursday February 15.

Brian, who was in his mid-60s, lived in Leigh at the heart of Lancashire canal fishing and represented the association and match fishing well, by organising matches for many, many years.

Wigan & DAA match secretary Trevor Smith said:

“Brian had been fighting cancer for 18 months. We send our regards and sympathy to the family for a fine gentleman”

Blundell’s Fishery Results

BLUNDELL’S FISHERY near Warrington has established itself as one of the most consistent and pleasant day-ticket complexes in the north west. Match results tend to give an exact overview of what is happening ( because catches are accurate ) and this weekend was typical.

Saturday’s open sweepstake was won by Karl Webster (Trafford Angling) who had 43lb 12oz of small carp, the biggest .5lb, all caught on a 14 metre pole and pellet.

These are ‘roving’ matches and every anglers is allowed to choose his own preferred swim from any of the seven lakes, in this match Karl decided to fish peg 17 on East Lodge and it was obviously a good choice.

Others:

Colin Mayer (Drennan NW) 37-14-0
Graham Stokes (Tri Cast Highfield) 36-7-0
Paul Conroy (Daiwa Wigan) 30-2-0

Sunday’s winner was Martyn Kaye (British Baits) with an excellent 47lb 9oz bag of carp and ide, all coming to corn and pellet on a 12mt pole, from peg 53 on Ash Pool.

Others:
